New Horizons Bands

A Concert Band experience for adult learners.

The New Horizons Band program is a band experience designed specifically for adult learners of concert band instruments: flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, french horn, baritone, tuba, and percussion.  The New Horizons Bands provide a wonderful opportunity to play your concert band instrument with a group of like-minded musicians! The bands are made up of adults who have never had an opportunity to learn a concert band instrument, those who played in school and have taken a substantial break from playing, or for those who have been playing all along!

2025 Offerings

Beginning/Intermediate Band
The beginning/intermediate band is an opportunity to strengthen fundamental skills in a supportive environment.The New Horizons Beginning Band is designed as an entry point for adults who have never learned a concert band instrument or for those who have taken a substantial break since they last played! This class is in progress (it began in September) but new registrants are welcome. Participants will continue to learn to read music and play a concert band instrument in an encouraging group setting. In this second half of the year, the band will begin to play more Intermediate music and all who are interested in strengthening their skills are welcome.
For this band, we use the book Accent on Achievement, Book One by John O'Reilly and Mark Williams.
Rehearsals are Mondays from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm and begin on February 3rd!

Concert Band
The concert band welcomes adult musicians who have played their concert band instrument for at least one year and who are comfortable playing intermediate to more advanced level music. If building skills and playing music in a non-competitive setting sounds like fun, you are encouraged to join the band! No audition is necessary.
Rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm at the Museum of Making Music beginning Wednesday, February 5th!

Jazz Band
The jazz band is a subset of our larger band program. There are currently no new openings for the jazz band, but to be added to the wait list, please contact  allisonh@museumofmakingmusic.org
Rehearsals are Mondays from 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

$100 - one band 
$175 - two bands with code: BANDISFUN
$225 - three bands with code: BANDALLDAY
